Christmas Project

Here is the code.

For my project, I didn’t want to code a Christmas tree because I thought everyone would probably code that, so I coded a present with some snow in the background. This was one of the first times I used the fill tool. In the beginning, I kept on writing beginfill and endfill, not begin_fill and end_fill, so that was confusing. This was also one of my first times using the random xy in Python, I did it in TurtleArt but not Python. I am overall pretty happy with how the present turned out and I like it. I did struggle with the bow for the present and the random xy a little bit. For the bow, I didn’t know if I wanted it to be an oval shape or just a circle. In the end, I chose a circle. Also, since it was my first time using the random xy in Python, I struggled with that a little bit and got help from Mr. Dembo. I learned more about the random xy and the fill tool. Overall, I learned a lot and am happy with my final result.

Maze

Here is the code.

For this challenge, I wasn’t able to finish it on time. I got the first 2 lines of the maze but then I couldn’t figure out how to make it so that the turtle kept going through the correct parts for the rest. I tried making the turtle go back to the beginning of the line and then just have it run like that, but then I realized that wasn’t very efficient. I struggled trying to figure out how to make the turtle go through the correct parts every time and it kind of stressed me out. I am proud I was able to code the beginning part because I honestly didn’t even think I could do that. While coding this, all the r’s and t’s sometimes confused me and I wasn’t able to solve the whole thing. After seeing some completed codes by the people who finished, I am starting to understand how they did it. I learned many things but one major thing I learned more about were the lists. If I had more time, I would probably try and figure out the next part of the code. I think this was a very interesting project, and I learned a lot from it.

Turtle Race

This was my turtle race. It was one of the first times I used an action block in Python. I learned a lot more about the action blocks and it was also my first time using the random block (in python) as well. I am proud that I was able to get the random numbers to work and get the action blocks to do what I wanted. While most students probably used the go-to command, I manually made them go into the spots. I think doing this makes it look like the racers are getting into position and getting ready. If I had more time, I probably would have added and finish line and a starting line. I would also probably change the shapes of the turtles (or arrows) as well. In the end, I learned a lot.

Inspired Art

When we first looked at the inspiration art, I immediately liked “palm”, but since the version of Turtleart they used is different from the one we use, I couldn’t really follow the code that they had because I was confused. This was probably the longest code I’ve ever created and I’m pretty proud of it. At first, my code was very similar to the inspired art, but then I thought about how I could make it different. So I added zigzagging lines. I really struggled with this because at first, I put in the wrong angle for some of the lines and it didn’t match up with the others. This frustrated me, but I figured it out later. Everything else went pretty smoothly. It was my first time using the fill block and I think it made everything a lot easier for the background. I had some time left so I confined the design into a box (not the block), I just added a bunch of code to cover up the extra parts. I learned a lot while working on this project and I’m pretty proud of the result.

Here is the original work below.

Name code

For my code, I wrote my name, which is Kelly. This was my first time using the ‘random’ block, I used it to create small circles that would randomly generate throughout the screen. I was very frustrated because, with the ‘e’, the code by itself worked, but when I added it to my whole code, it kept on going in the wrong direction. I had to change the code for ‘K’ and ‘e’ to get it to work. The ‘e’ doesn’t look as good as when it first started because of the changes, but I think it ended up OK. Since we just started Turtle Art, it was my first time using many of the blocks. Overall I learned a lot and I think it didn’t turn out bad. (The code screenshot is blurry since it shrunk so I emailed you the code as well.)

Turtle Art- Flower

I made a Turtle Art code, it was a flower. When I first started coding this flower, it made me very frustrated, I couldn’t get the petals to face the right direction. So I just made many turtles and moved them around in the places I wanted. It was not efficient and it took a lot of time. In the end, I had like 12 turtles. But Mr. Dembo said I shouldn’t have that many turtles and taught me the action block. So I had to get rid of most of the turtles and improve my code. It took a while for me to get the directions correct, but I finally managed to get something that I wanted. This was my first post changing the pen size and color and I was pretty happy with how it turned out. It was also my first time using the action block. I learned a lot of things while coding this flower and I am pretty happy with the final result.

About me

I enjoy reading. I like reading because when I read a book, I can picture it all in my head and it feels like I’m in a totally different place. Reading also makes me smile and I just like the way that books are very interesting and compelling. I usually read fantasy books, so it feels different and more exciting than reality.

I also like doodling, but not coloring. I like to just sketch things, and I don’t like adding color to it. I am bad at choosing colors and coloring things in. The app Procreate, is a good drawing app that I’ve been using for over a year. Unfortunately, it’s not free, but it works really well.

One thing I dislike is swim team, I’ve been swimming at Lifetime since I was 5. At first, it wasn’t bad, I was only in swimming lessons, but then when I was 7, I started swim team and I hated it. When I was around 8-9 years old, I had a group of friends to hang out with, but they either moved or quit.

Those are some fun things to know about me!
